essential Wedding Party Tips from your Charleston Wedding DJ!

Hey there, let’s talk wedding planning.

We have DJ’d many weddings in the Charleston area. Check out these tips for putting on the best party!

Wedding Party Tips, From Your DJ

1. Place your DJ right next to the dance floor (in the center of it, if possible)

Why: Placing your DJ right next to the dance floor gives you and your guests the best dancing experience. You actually get to feel the music, not just hear it. It’s better for non-dancing guests too, because then the overall room volume will be more enjoyable. If your DJ is really far away from dancers, they may need to push the volume harder in order to cover the distance to the dance floor. You don’t want that.

What Not To Do: Avoid placing your DJ far away from your dance floor. If you do this, and you want a high energy dance party, the volume will probably have to be pushed louder than you’d like. Some venues are designed in a way where it’s hard to avoid this, and we can make the best of those scenarios. Still, we say avoid this if possible. #ProTip

2. Keep the Bar Near the Dance Floor

Why: Let’s face it…alcohol helps people loosen up. After a couple drinks, you unwind a bit. We want to encourage relaxed energy and fun spirits! Keeping your bar near the dance floor increases the likelihood that your guests will want to party and dance! It’s a great recipe for a fun wedding.

What Not To Do: Don’t place the bar reallllly far away from your dance floor. We can still put on a great party in this scenario, it’s just not ideal. If you can swing it to be closer, that’s the move!

3. Get Out There and Dance!

There’s this cool thing that happens when the married couple is out dancing…it pulls in your guests to dance, too! So, if you want to encourage a dance party, get out there and bust a move.

Speaking of moves and dancing…there’s no right way to do it! You just gotta move! Nobody is judging you. People stare when they see you having fun. They are mesmerized. Having fun and being yourself is the ultimate goal, especially on your wedding day. If you’re not a dancer, that’s okay, just bop a bit and move around!

4. Don’t Do Fake Send Offs

You’re probably like…”what’s that?”

This can happen when your photographer or videographer is slated to leave before your wedding does. Keep in mind their contracted hours and when they start/end. They put in long days for you, capturing quality content the whole time, so be mindful of the contracted hours and how they are used.

So back to the Fake send off: The couple decides to capture a professional Send Off Photo or Video (ie. sparkler exit), before the wedding is over

Here’s How It Goes: Your DJ asks guests to line up for a FAKE send off. “A What?” “A Fake Send Off”. Yup…

Sure, this gets a cool photo with most of your guests…at the COST of your actual wedding experience! People are generally confused by it and it’s sort of awkward. Sometimes, guests actually leave after the photo…potentially hours before your wedding is over! All that being said, we can drop a banger, or hit a slow song, and work the crowd to get the party flowing again. We just don’t recommend the move.

Consider grabbing your photographer/videographer’s package that covers more hours, you’ll be glad you have the content down the road. These are memories that are only made once, and likely the only time you’ll have all of these people together in your life.

5. Have a Rain Plan!

We all hope for a beautiful day, and most often that’s what we get! ☀️ However, rain happens, and it can ruin a poorly planned wedding. Don’t let this happen to your wedding. Have a back up plan in case rain is forecasted OR if it comes out of nowhere. WE HAVE SEEN IT HAPPEN…

Note: Your DJ needs protection from rain in order to perform! For real, no music is a bad look, so make sure a sensible rain plan is in place.

6. What Happens, Happens, Just Go With It

We tend to imagine a specific set of events on our wedding day. Yet, things are bound to change. Sometimes issues pop up. This is why you have professional vendors in your corner. Do your best to go with the flow, and avoid getting hung up on a specific vision. Enjoy your friends and family and oh yeah… finding the LOVE OF YOUR LIFE! ❤️

Bonus Pro TipHiring a Coordinator is a great way to give you the freedom to relax and truly enjoy your wedding day.

We hope this was helpful as you plan your Charleston wedding! We, as your DJ and MC, are on your team, and we want to put on the best wedding party possible for you.
